A Joyful Cry

Originally written October 21, 2021

A drive home turned an aimless drive

As I look at the clouds and feel the wind through the windows

I realize how close I feel to you

The breeze is cool and comforting

Here I sit, reflecting on the cycle of my mind

“Remember, feel, process” and it repeats

As tears fill my eyes, I feel even closer to you

Then I realize my tears are not because of the trauma

But they are tears of joy in remembrance of how you delivered me

Tears of joy because you want me just the way I am

Tears of joy because I’m loved more than I ever dared hope

Tears of joy because I remember that I am victorious because of you

Tears of joy because I don’t have to be bound to the things you’ve brought me to reckon with

Tears of joy because this reckoning is the beginning of my freedom

Tears of joy because I get to lean fully into your arms from the nightmare that has been my thoughts

Tears of joy because I know I can now deliver on the assignment

As you have commanded in your word, “ So go ahead — let everyone know it! Tell the world of how he broke through and delivered you…”

You are breathing life again
